GOLDEN HEART 10

THIRD PERSON POV

Jeff caught Justine before she hit the floor. Her shivering never stopped, tears stained her face, her teeth grinding together, especially her wisdom teeth, loudly despite her unconsciousness.

The man knew he had to tell his boss, but was dreading the consequences of not going with her and not knowing the reason behind this sudden change of events.

He put her inside the car, and strapped her carefully before closing the door and heading to make a phone call.

The phone rung few times before Adam picked up. ‘You better have a good reason for disturbing me during the meeting.’ Adam stated calmly.

‘I’m sorry, Sir, but Mrs Knight is in a critical condition.' He was suddenly alarmed.

‘She came out shivering and in tears before suddenly dropping unconscious, we are heading home now.’ Jeff explained.

The only response he received was the beeping sound on the other side of the phone indicating that he hung up. Jeff headed to the driver seat, and when he was about to drive the driveway of the complex, a middle aged man came out of the building and headed to his black sleek car.

He seemed rather familiar, Jeff was sure he saw him somewhere but couldn’t pinpoint where exactly.

He shook those ideas off and headed to the Knight’s home, he didn’t want his boss to reach before him because if that happened there would be hell to pay.

However luck didn’t seem to be on his side that day since Adam was by the door, impatiently pacing back and forth. He drove as if he was hunted down, he could’ve sworn he broke every traffic law out there but he could care less. He wanted to reach home as soon as possible, he wanted to see with his own eyes whether the situation was as bad as he imagined it to be.

He paced towards them when he saw Jeff pulling up at the entrance. He opened the door and bent down before gently lifting a very pale and unconscious Justine into his arms.

He gave Jeff one last look before heading upstairs with her to his room. He laid her on the bed, and started nursing her.

It was late that night when Justine stirred in her sleep, and started murmuring ‘please, dad. I’m sorry.’

Adam gathered her trembling hands in his and caressed them soothingly, this wasn’t new to him. He knew well the symptoms of her episodes, he was the always there on time when she experienced them. NEVER once failed to gather her in his warm and soothing embrace when needed, which may be one of the main reasons she couldn’t break his heart by denying his request of marriage.

He was the only Ray of Light she had along the years of darkness that almost consumed her completely, she respected him greatly and that alone was more than enough for her.

Love never brought her but misery since the beginning, be it marital or parental she never experienced the true meaning of it.

Those people didn’t leave her until she became a shell of herself. The only thing that survived was her physical form, and that too got snatched from her in the most brutal way possible. For the sake of those who could care less about what happened to her.

She wondered what Adam saw in her broken self to be so adamant about making her his.

She woke up from the warmth that suddenly surrounded her.

‘Wwwhat happened?’ She whispered hoarsely.

‘You tell me.’

‘Who is it?’ Justine suddenly asked.

Adam was taken aback by her question but then remembered that the room was Dark with no light but the slight Ray of Moonlight coming from the window. ‘It’s me Adam.’

He answered her while reached to the bedside lamp to switch it on.

She looked up when the room lit, to see Adam staring down at her, tenderly.

‘What happened, Justine?’ Adam repeated.

‘Nothing.’ She answered looking down.

‘Let rephrase that, who’s the man that existed your building right after you?’ He asked with a voice that demanded answers. A voice she knew very well not to go against.

Right after Jeff told him what he saw, he knew the man had something to do with his Justine state. He was just waiting for her to wake up to make sure his assumptions were right.

‘Mmmmy father.’

‘What did he say?’ He asked calmly, way too calm for her taste. ‘Justine!’ He warmed gently when she didn’t answer.

‘He said that I should go back to my ex, and be thankful that he still wants me.’ She answered.

‘And?’ he urged.

‘That he will make sure I don’t marry you because I belong with him…’

Adam stood abruptly before she could even finish her sentence, knocking the lamp in process. He paced the room for a while to pacify his anger before coming back to her side and kissing her forehead. ‘Go back to sleep, I won’t be late.’ He said while gently caressing her short auburn locks before pulling his jacket on and heading to the door.

‘Where are you going, Adam?’ Even though she had a strong hunch as to where he was going due to the darkened pupils he supported when he learned to kiss her, but she couldn’t help but ask. Hoping that something in her tone would change his mind.

‘Sleep, Justine.’ Was the only answer she got before he exited the door.

Which she did eventually.

David Wright was preparing to sleep when his hotel room door rung, he huffed annoyed before heading to it.

The moment the door opened, he was pinned to the opposite wall in a death grip. ‘If I fucking see or hear that you approached my wife again, I will have your head.’ Hissed a very dangerously venomous voice.

David craned his neck as much as the man’s grip allowed to see who was the intruder, and he paled when he recognised him.

‘Wwwhat are you talking about?’ He asked hoarsely.

‘Justine Knight, if you, your son, or anybody of your fucked up family threaten or approach her again you’ll be dealing with me, do you understand?’ Adam tightened his hold on the muscular middle aged man as if to emphasise his point.

‘Yyyou mean my daughter?’ The man whispered while trying to get some oxygen into his system.

Adam noticed the almost blue face of the man, and abruptly freed him causing for him to hit the ground while heaving uncontrollably.

‘I hope this the last time I pay you a visit, for your sake.’ Adam straightened his clothes before he made his way to the door.

‘She is still a Wright seeing she’s not married to you yet.’ Her father stated.

‘You think?’ Adam taunted. ‘Make sure to heed my warning. I’ve been kind enough to not go after your son for revealing her location, don’t expect to receive the same treatment the next time we meet, and make sure to tell that pussy who sent you to not show me his face if he doesn’t want me to bury his sorry ass alive.’ He threatened before slamming the door hard enough to cause the hinges to shake.

David was still stunned by the man that he spent sometimes gawking at the closed door, the ruthless tycoon that he tried to meet multiple times for investment purposes but failed, just paid him a visit to threaten him to stay away from his own daughter.

Justine was able to pick right after all, He remarked with a sad smile playing on his lips.
