She looked around in a panicked way, searching for any hint of a person that heard their conversation before turning to him with a glare that could burn a person alive.
‘What did I say about talking about my condition here? What if Adam was here and heard you? How am I a supposed to explain to him then!’ She snapped.
He didn’t understand her today. She was snappier and easily irritated, she wasn’t like that with him. They would usually spend their time speaking, teasing and pranking each other whenever they meet. Today, however seemed as if she worried about something, something that she wanted to avoid at all costs but knew there’s no way to help her do it.
‘I…’
‘What is this thing that I shouldn’t find out about?’ Asked the voice she dreaded hearing at this moment the most.
Both their heads snapped his direction in a speed like no other.
Jürgen was about to say something when Justine beat him to it.
‘Just leave already before you cause any more damage.’ She ordered icily.
He just looked at her for a while before exiting the room. He was upset with the way she treated him today, but he couldn’t bring himself to stay angry at her for a long time.
He understood where she’s coming from, she has a lot of things to do in such a limited time.
She had to execute her revenge, protect those whom she cares about, help him get his revenge, and amend their relationship before its’ too late. She was in race with time, a race that no one knew of.
Jürgen shook those thoughts off his mind before getting into his car and speeding off.
Justine walked to Adam who was busy trying to study her every movement. ‘Why are you here earlier than usual? Is everything okay?’ She asked concerned, and trying to avert his attention from what he just saw and heard.
‘Who is he Justine, and what was he doing in our house?’ Adam asked, ignoring her question.
‘You mean Jürgen? He’s like a brother, I called him over to discuss about some work related stuff.’ She answered smoothly.
‘A brother? Why I Don’t know of these brothers of yours that keep on popping out of nowhere?’ He asked sarcastically. ‘And why are you discussing our company stuff with a total stranger?’ He added.
‘I meant my previous work, Adam, and you don’t have to act this way with me. I’m having trouble dealing with all the issues I have now alone, I don’t have time or strength to deal with those petty issues.’ She said calmly. Ignoring his first question.
‘What the hell is that supposed to mean?’
He hissed, wanting so badly to shout but was reigning himself because of the tired expression and paleness that was covering her.
‘It means that I didn’t go complaining to you about your flings that found their way into our house, so you shouldn’t be angry or jealous about my family!’ She snapped, tired of being questioned for something so trivial.
‘Which is why I didn’t speak when you told him to deal with her.’ He snapped.
She tensed when her mind registered what he just uttered. ‘Oh, Don’t look so surprised, Hypnosis Professor - Annalise Wright. Did you honestly think I would jump into marriage with someone I don’t know anything about? I didn’t reach where I am today with a simple mind. Figuring things out and weighing them is my speciality, Mrs Knight.’ He smirked at the end.
‘That’s right, I gave that whore to a bunch of gangsters to do whatever they want with her, to make her think millions of times the next time she dares targeting others’ men. I want her to tremble with fear every time she hears my name, so that she knows who she messed with.’ She hissed. ‘That’s how I am, that’s what life taught me, it taught me to snatch what I want instead of sitting down and waiting for others’ leftovers! That’s how I Annalise Wright lived and how I will continue to live.’ She whisper - shouted, unable to raise her voice because of the pain she was still experiencing from earlier. ‘I’m this wicked, evil and twisted. I was never the obedient and naïve girl you knew for two years. The sooner you get that through your head the better.’ She concluded, and was about to retire to her room before he stopped her.
‘I don’t care about what you do or how you handle your business. What I care about is for you not to close yourself off from me, to let me in. Especially when it’s something concerning your health, it’s not something I want to learn about from strangers. If I had any objections about you or your way of doing things I wouldn’t have proposed to you in the first place, I wouldn’t have even glanced your way. I know everything that I need to know, you’re still my Justine and will always be no matter what anyone says.’ He said in a much calmer way. ‘The only thing I want from you is to tell me when things are too hard to handle on your own, that’s why I’m here for. I want you to tell me what’s wrong with you before I noticed it myself, that’s what married couples are about.’ He added.
Silent tears slipped from her eyes, his words cut her heart open. How is she supposed to tell the one person who considered her his world that one day she will be gone. That one day she will forget every last memory she had of him.
How is she supposed to ask forgiveness for the sins that she can’t stop committing, how will she ever be able to look at herself in the mirror without being repulsive.
‘I’m sorry, Adam.’ She murmured before trembles shot through her head and down her whole body, the pain almost paralysing her senses. Black dots appeared in front of her eyes before she hit the floor with a loud thud.
She welcomed the only piece of solace that helped easing the guilt that left her heart in torment.
‘SONGS TO LISTEN TO - THE ONE WHO SAVES ME & THESE FEELINGS WON’T GO AWAY.’
Adam was a wreck, his head buzzed with all the thinking he had been doing since Justine collapsed.
The doctors suddenly showed up without him calling, almost as if someone predicted such a thing would happened and sent them there.
The Jürgen guy he saw earlier came back minutes after the doctors barged in the House, Gretta seemed rather calm considering the sudden happenings.
Everything screamed strangeness and unfamiliarity. He was never the one to be comfortable with unfamiliarity. Out of all of the happenings of the last hours what weighed heavily on him was the fact that he didn’t know what was wrong with Justine.
There was some strange change in her personality in the last few days, even her behaviour changed. The calm, refined and collected woman he knew for the past two years was replaced with this totally new, cold, unfamiliar, vengeful and full of secrets, Annalise Wright. A-L…
It’s not like he didn’t know who she really was, or where did she come from. HE KNEW.
He already did a throughout background check on her the moment he decided to make her Mrs Knight, but no matter how throughout and precise a background check is, it still is just a background check. There are secrets that you have to find out, someone who knows them and is willing to share, for you to know them.
And he didn’t even know there were any. He thought she was just Justine/Annalise Wright, the woman he knew for two years and came to love. She was just his Justine.
Until recently, that is.
The things he accidentally came to know about her are so overwhelming and totally unlike her that he would develop a headache every time he thinks of them or try to figure them out.
The mighty and ruthless business tycoon who thought everything and everyone is in the palms of his hands, that nothing can escape him unless he wants to was easily deceived by none other than his secretary and wife.
She wasn’t just any secretary, she was a well known professor in one of Winden’s most prestigious universities. She has a PhD in psychology and used to be a doctor at the same time. And he has a hunch there’s more than that. Seeing that she met with that brother of hers in that most dangerous side of the city after midnight without any bodyguards with her.
How can someone so petite and delicate possess such credible talents even after the severe mental torture she went through along the years.
He was dumbfounded….
The thing that got him the most though was, how her expression morphed into anger and fright when he confronted her about her intentions with the redhead who barged into their house, nor did she show any signs of fear when she knew that he knew her real identity. She didn’t even hesitate to share her plans concerning the woman with him.
Which can only mean that her condition is far worst than he had imagined, and that the doctors know but are ordered to keep silent.
Adam was in a corner of their dimly lit bedroom, slightly observing her sleeping form before he finally stood up, marched to her and kissed her forehead lingering. Then he went out to seek for answers from the only people that he knew were sure to know something that would help his quest for the well hidden truth.
Justine opened her eyes when she heard the bedroom’s door close shut, she’s been awake for a quite sometime now. However she didn’t have the courage nor the face to face Adam just yet.
She sighed tiredly. She detached the needle from her hand in a not so gentle way. She was still unwell, just not that sickly tired and pale.
She headed to the bathroom to freshen up before anybody decided to disturb her.
She came out of the bathroom sometime later in nothing but a towel covering her body, and another on her head. She was about to head to the vicinity table when her phone’s screen came to life with the least person she expected to call her.
‘Who said you could call me, let alone on my personal phone!’ She snapped when she picked the phone up.
‘We need to meet.’ The caller answered arrogantly.
Justine smirked at his boldness. Then she hung up.
Those people needed a reminder as to why she’s from a different league from them.
She continued her way to the vicinity table, picked up the hair brush, and started humming slightly while preparing to leave. She took her sweet time, did everything ever so slowly.
An hour later she was out of the Knight’s premises and into her expensive sports car, wearing a skin tight faded blue jeans and a grey sleeveless shirt with a brown jacket on top of it.
Even though Jeff and her other bodyguards tried to stop her, they couldn’t because she was out of there before they even saw her.
‘Get right to the point, I don’t have time to waste on you.’ She said the moment she entered the abandoned building along with Jürgen.
She deliberately chose this building for the meeting because it’s far away from the city and from prying eyes and ears.
She didn’t want to take any chances of anybody seeing or hearing any of what was bound to happen here.
One of the guys approached her in a careful way, like a Wolf showing his submission to its Alpha. Head slightly bowed, back slightly bent, and hands resting on each side. But then he suddenly scoffed when he heard her statement. His posture straightening almost immediately.
A way to show he’s fed up with her bossy and arrogant attitude towards them. ‘You better make time because if you don’t..’ He trailed off, sitting back comfortably on the rusty old chair.
Justine raised her eyebrow at his sudden change of behaviour, not that she didn’t realised it on the phone earlier. ‘If I don’t?’ She asked, rather amused.
‘Well, you know. Your Hus..oh, wait, he’s not your husband. He’s just another poor soul you’re using to achieve whatever it is you want. Anyway he’ll get some really interesting information if you don’t listen to what we have to say.’ He said confidently.
Justine laughed, taking him off guard. He was suddenly tense. ‘That’s why you’ll never be able to be anything other than a petty gang leader. My chess piece.’ She emphasised.....
